My lessons learned to pass PMI-ACP

On the 9th of June 2020, I passed PMI-ACP. I’d like to share some lessons learned with you. It is not a universal path but my path to succeeding in PMI-ACP. Many others exist.

1. Ressources I used to prepare for PMI-ACP

Last year, Nart ABDULLAH, PMP, PMI-ACP joined our department and I talked to him to know how he prepared for PMI-ACP.

He recommended buying PMI-ACP Prep Book by Mike GriffithsSecond Edition. Pay attention to buy the Second Edition.

And I confirm the book is excellent, easy and pleasant to read with many visuals!

I completed it with the flashcards. Hot Topics: Flashcards for Passing the PMI-ACP Exam

I also bought the UDEMY course by Joseph Philipps https://www.udemy.com/course/pmiacp_21pdus/learn/lecture/9690088?start=0#overview.

Two weeks before the exam, I bought RMCAgile Fast Cloud and I did not regret it! You can check your understanding of the concepts. For each answer, there is a detailed explanation tab that refers to the PMI-ACP Prep Book with the exact page. It is another way to review the books with focused sections.

I tend to gather many resources when I prepare for an exam.

2. My study plan

I took part in training as requested in the application We kept in touch to motivate each other and exchange. I read the entire book once, taking some notes. Then I read it again (more quickly), listening to UDEMY’s course. And I reviewed it again, playing the flashcards or taking the exams in Agile Fast Cloud.

3. Online or in a test center?

I hesitated between an online exam or at a test center. For the online exam, my computer did not meet the technical requirements: so I chose the onsite exam.

I was afraid of having to wait for a long time due to Covid-19 but in one week, I could get a seat at 8.00 am, which was my wished time.

4. the 09th of June 2020

I arrived early.

The test procedure is well explained in the exam provider website:

  • I was given a sheet of paper to read the rules

  • I had to put all my belongings except the ID in a drawer and keep the key with me

  • I was taken a digital picture

  • I had to sign electronically

  • Then I had to show my ears and my glasses

  • And I was assigned a desk

You can use some papers to take notes but I did not need to. The clock is on the right-hand side of the screen but not disturbing.

The questions are situational: you can rule out two questions and then you have to choose between the two remainings. That is where the RMC Agile Fast Cloud helped me because I could check my understanding of the different concepts.

When I did not know a question, I marked it. I took all the questions and after I reviewed them all.  Then, I pressed the button END REVIEW and I passed it. The general results are printed out and I received them by email in the afternoon.

I recommend PMI-ACP: this is a fantastic learning journey to become literate in Agile and meet a new community!

Good luck!
