Fateme Sadat Sayed-Alangi in Iran

In this new blog series, I’d like to ask four questions to people from different countries, backgrounds, professions, and genders who have all one thing in common: volunteering. I hope you’ll get inspired by their journeys and take the leap into volunteering.

Notice: The positions, views and information contained published here are those of the interviewee and do not necessarily represent my views or opinions.

Fateme Sadat Seyed-Alangi is a graduate Master student from the University of Tehran. She is 26 and during her Master’s degree she was interested in participating in various project management activities such as, competitions, meetings, conferences.

How did you begin to volunteer?

I was browsing and found the website of International Project Management Association. I registered there and tried to participate in different events like climbing with the other project management experts or students. After a few sessions, the head of Iran’s IPMA offered me a volunteering work there so I accepted.

Why did you continue volunteering?

It doesn’t hurt my duties and help me to make a better communication with the other experts in my field.

How has volunteering helped you in your career?

It helped me to manage my day time more effectively. I had to do several tasks every day thus, I was punctual about doing the tasks on time. After passing the courses, I started my thesis and due the punctuality characteristic, I could defend my thesis with two submitted Q1 papers and achieve 20 of 20 (a full mark) in my viva.

Would you encourage other people to take up volunteering, and if so, why?

Yes. I think some people can do several different tasks at the same time. For them, it will be so useful and efficient. Volunteering works expand your communication networks and create new opportunities for you.
