How did you begin to volunteer?

Frankly, as a two-time employee and a mother, I sought a safe haven from the increasing daily pressure of a war that has continued in my country for more than a decade. This led me to explore the idea of volunteering online. I searched for opportunities on the PMI website and applied to volunteer as a PMP tutor for the Germany study group in 2022. And that's where it all began.

Why did you continue volunteering?

In fact, I have two stories show how my volunteer work has not only broadened my knowledge and networking opportunities but also enhanced my technical and soft skills, ultimately contributing to my career growth and success.

Story 1: Enhancing Knowledge and Networking as a Professional Trainer

As a professional instructor, maintaining a broad and deep knowledge base, along with extensive networking, is crucial. Volunteering for PMI Germany Chapter has significantly contributed to these aspects of my career. Through my involvement, I've had the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of professionals, each bringing unique insights and experiences. This exposure has enriched my understanding of various industries and methodologies, allowing me to incorporate fresh perspectives into my teaching.

Moreover, the chapter regularly organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences that cover the latest trends and best practices in project management. By participating in these events, I stay updated on new developments and continuously expand my expertise. This ongoing learning process not only enhances my technical knowledge but also hones my soft skills, such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. The network I've built through the PMI Germany Chapter has become an invaluable resource, providing support, inspiration, and opportunities for collaboration.

Story 2: Leveraging Online Communication and Professional Tools

In today's digital age, proficiency in online communication and familiarity with various professional software are essential skills. Volunteering for PMI Germany Chapter has allowed me to explore and master a range of brilliant tools that I now effectively utilize in my job. Through virtual meetings, webinars, and collaborative projects, I've become adept at using platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and various project management software.

This experience has transformed volunteering into a comprehensive training ground, enabling me to elevate my professional capabilities. The chapter's emphasis on efficient online communication has sharpened my ability to manage remote teams, coordinate virtual events, and deliver impactful online presentations. These skills have translated directly into my professional life, making me more proficient and adaptable in an increasingly digital workplace.

Would you encourage other people to volunteer, and if so, why?

Absolutely, I enthusiastically recommend others to volunteer for numerous compelling reasons: Volunteering provides opportunities to Acquire new skills, gain experience, and develop personally and professionally. It also enhances communities by addressing social issues and supporting local organizations. It is a great way to Build connections, fostering enduring friendships and professional relationships. Of course, volunteering is an effective way to Reduce stress, combat depression, and maintain mental and physical well-being. In essence, volunteering is a mutually beneficial experience that enriches both the volunteer's life and the well-being of the community they serve.
