How would you describe yourself?

I’m someone who worked in many different industries and practiced different professions (Trainer, Consultant, Auditor, Entrepreneur, Catalyst) yet the core of everything was project management and eagerness to learn on the go. This ignited my ability to switch hats and speak different languages by looking at the context. Lucky me I was able to do multiple career shifts! Yet I’m not a big fan of luck; I believe in plans and alternatives! This was all planned by Almighty God – I just worked on the details. Amongst all the formal and informal titles I held in my life, the best was “The Crazy Genius”. It says it all, I guess!

Why did you become a project manager?

Because I have a dynamic personality - change is part of my DNA, and project management is a non-routine job, every project is a new experience.

What do you think is the most essential skill needed by a project manager?

Many, a project manager needs to be an excellent communicator, has good leadership skills, politically intelligent person and can manage different dynamics, knows how to read and structure the big picture and connect the dots, able to wear different hats at the same time, able to see the silver lining in each cloud, able to tailor the best fit (not necessarily the best practice).

As a woman project manager, what is the biggest roadblock you’ve faced?

People not appreciating your expertise because of age or gender, the only way to pass this roadblock is to prove them wrong by showing them on the ground what value to bring to the table.

Do you have any resources to recommend?

There are many, it’s a very dynamic field and sky is the limit. What I would recommend a balance of two tips:

There are many resources available in the project management arena for people who have put their thoughts together: 1) don’t reinvent the wheel but be smart about what you select, 2) don’t limit and restrict yourself to what others thought is right, go above and beyond and do your own thinking process.
